I should have checked recent reviews before dining. Their service has fallen off dramatically since the last I've been. When we walked in, the hostess was on the phone. No acknowledgment, no signals, nothing. Whoever was on the phone was treated with a bunch of cringworthy "yups" We finally get seated. The waitress is very curt and unfriendly. We order appetizers, and they cone 5-7 minutes apart. My soup comes with a teaspoon not a soup spoon ( ever try to eat thick clam chowder with a teaspoon?). It would have been great to tell the server if she ever did a checkback. I was able to flag down another server and she just plopped the spoon on the table. Dinner was great-- which was good because she never returned to the table until we were almost finished. We did order dessert. My husband did want coffee but again, no server. The ' hands off' serving experience is fine for someplace like Applebees (and I actually prefer it) not for Mitchell's.

The is one of Rochester's best. Consistent quality, great staff and awesome manager. So grateful places like this want to do it right.

I love Mitchell's Fish Market as a chain but I would not go to this location. When my parents and I went on a Saturday (with a reservation!) it took them about 10 minutes to seat us. We almost walked out after waiting 15 minutes for a server....while listening to a server argue with the hostess about her seating arrangement. A server finally arrived only to mess up our drink order. I figured this was a one time thing and tried again a couple months later....only to become annoyed by the manager trying to rush us out and acting super fake nice. Not again.

Very good place to eat. The woman had salmon and it was amazing. The shark fin desert is awesome as well. Our server was very good. Didn't push us to order and gave us some ideas on what is good. The jumbo shrimp is exactly what it is as well.

Stopped at this amazing spot for the Vday steak and fish fix of the year. This place was amazing, the apricot sour is the cocktail of choice. The mash potatoes were the best I've had in SE Michigan. The hush puppies are amazing. Just get the Sam Adams Seafood Platter and you will be pleased. I loved the text my phone option when our table was ready! GO there! and enjoy

Great meal, well seasoned, great service. I can't wait to come back. The Friday Night Surf and Turf was my favorite.

A review for happy hour - Got blackened fish tacos, ceviche, and shrimp tacos. $5 a plate, which is a steal, especially for the tacos. Shrimp was done perfectly - lightly fried with a sweet and sour glaze. Wait staff was terrible though - we waited for the waters, waited for the bill, waited to get our bill taken. We actually had to remind our waiter at the bar that we do need waters.... It almost seemed like they were ignoring us, which brings you down to one star. Food's great, service is heinous!!

This place is great during all types of the year. They are very helpful in providing suggestions on what to order. Their gluten free menu is one of the better ones that I have seen. You are able to order any of the fresh fish of the days with the various ways to fix and still be gluten free. They are also very helpful on dealing with people who are incapacitated with walking. Definitely a place to go back too!

One of the best seafood places I have been to. The ambience is very nice and the food is extraordinary. Prices are a bit high but there are also affordable options on the menu. Either way the food is worth it. I recommend the crab artichoke dip for an appetizer. It is delicious. The seating is a problem as this place is packed, but online reservations are available on their site. Valet parking available as well.

One of my favorites!! I love this place. The menu is always changing based on what is available for the day, so you never get tired of it. You can dress up, or just wear jeans and a top and you fit in. Their happy hour is definitely worth trying as well!!

Our server, Andrew, was well worth the wait. Food takes a long time during the rush but if you're in no hurry, it's worth every penny.

Great selection of sea food. It's on the expensive side; so, go for lunch. The booths are very comfortable, the wait staff are always pleasant. There is also another Mitchell's in Birmingham. The menu looks the same, but the ambiance isn't as nice, and the staff is more aloof. The Rochester Mitchell's is better.

I had dinner here a few days ago. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. The ceasar salad dressing was very bland and the lettus was not cut up. We enjoyed most of the food, but it could've been better especially considering the fact that it was a slow night.

Great atmosphere and location! The waitstaff is always friendly and knowledgeable. The seafood is so fresh here that they change their menu daily to keep up with new seafood shipments. They had a good fresh selection of oysters as well as a pretty extensive selection of other fine sea-foods. They have great appetizers and a good selection of wine.

A little disappointed in this location because my experience at other Mitchell's has been outstanding. We arrived around noon on a beautiful Mother's Day, and asked if we might be seated outside on the patio. A robotic, matronly hostess told us yes, then changed her mind because our party was 5 people, not 4. We asked if they might put 2 tables together and we're told that wouldn't be possible. Understandable if they were busy, but there was NO ONE eating outside when we asked (and the outside tables were about 10% filled when we left...) Being annoyed in the first 5 minutes after we arrived led to a less than optimal experience. On the positive side, our server, Dawn was extremely pleasant and attentive. The food was fresh and well prepared. The best choices at out table were lobster stuffed cod and Seafood Americana. We'll be back to Mitchell's for sure, but probably not this one.

Our food was great and the service was just as wonderful. It was a busy Saturday night, we had a reservation and got seated pretty quickly. I would highly recommend Mitchell's in Rochester as I've never had a bad experience there and go there often!

  • Mark B.

We had a party of six and our reservation was honored immediately. Overall the food was excellent although I had an issue with the mussels coming out cold but they attended to the problem in a timely fashion. There also seemed be quite a few new items since my last visit. Service was good although after paying the bill plus a sizable cash tip I wasn't thanked. Not use to that. The one drawback is the price of a rocks drink. I like to have a couple of scotches before dinner but at around $11.00 a drink I'm better off buying a fifth and having them at home and sipping on a glass of wine for dinner.

We come here often and enjoy sitting at the bar for drinks and appetizers. Tonight I encounter a new RUDE bartender named Vanessa, I sure hope she is seasonal help!!

I have dined here 5-6 times and enjoyed my meal and the experience with the exception of my last 2 visits. Tonight a group of 6 of us had dinner and the service was poor - the waitress was unprofessional and not very familiar with the menu. I ordered the Market Trio and was sadly disappointed with a very small portion of rice (maybe 1/4 cup), the crab cake was mushy and the shrimp was so overlooked it was like cardboard. I had to ask for a fresh serving of shrimp. When it arrived it was cooked properly but was very small sized shrimp. The salmon was a good portion but very average - nothing interesting. Overall my friends all said their meal was "ok" but none of us felt inclined to return any time soon. The service and quality of food here has certainly declined over the past several years. I would not recommend it to anyone. There are many other quality restaurants in the same shopping area that are much better.

  • Yolanda G.

The food was good. The portions were small for the price. But the quality was there. The drinks were about 9/10 dollars and worth it! I ordered a dessert martini that was just the right amount of sweet and strong. I loved it. The interior was nice. We didn't have to wait to be seated either. Our waitress was friendly and fast. I would give this place 5 stars but like I said in the beginning, our portions were just so small for the price we paid. I had pasta and scallops. It was very good. But had only came with 3 scallops (it was 35 dollars). Other than our small portions everything was great. At the end out bill came to 94 dollars. We both had a drink, appetizer and dinner. I would come back. But I might eat a sandwich before I do lol

Easy to get a reservation and a pleasent atmosphere. The service us typically friendly and fast. All and all a descent place for a quick bite. Drinks are always good.

We have been here for dinner several times. We like the appetizers a lot. The Tuna one and calamari are our favorites. I like the fresh fish done shanghai style. We continue to return as we have a quality dinner each time we come in.

Really liked this restaurant. Easy to get an on-line reservation, and it was promptly honored. I started with the house salad -interesting and tasty addition of pine nuts and chopped dates to a basic salad. Poppy seed dressing was just sweet/tart enough. My crab cakes, smashed redskins and herbed corn were delicious. My husband had the shellfish trio special and it was very good, and very good value for the money (cold water lobster tail, king crab legs, and Dungeness crab legs). Prompt and knowledgeable server, nice low-light atmosphere, and lovely menu. Would like to try some other items if we're back in the area. The desserts looked amazing, but the waiter slowed way down and we ran out of time and canceled. The very nice manager packed us a piece to go.

Was here Saturday night with family. Welts start with the service. The waiter was awful. When we didn't want appetizers or bottles of wine. The waiters attitude changes on us real quick. He didn't even care about how long we had to wait for our drinks we ordered. Yet the Table next to us he "loved" them. Well it only took him about 20 minutes for him to take our order. He also kept calling my girlfriends mom "love" which was pretty rude. This isn't New York or LA. Kind of disrespectful and tasteless to say the least. Well 3 of us ordered steak. Ask for medium and 40 minutes later we got well done. We decided it wasn't worth the wait since we were already an hour in. My girlfriends for the shrimp and salmon. Shrimp was incredibly fishey. Pretty gross. Needless I wouldn't recommend going here. 3 other places right in the same area Id go over here.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed ourselves at Mitchell's last week. We had a wonderful server named Jennifer that treated us really well and gave us amazing service. The pineapple mojito was delicious and the bacon wrapped shrimp and lobster bisque was yummy. We both ordered the king crab legs. My crab legs had not been precracked and I'm not very good at it. Jennifer took them back to have them cracked but then the king crab legs meat came out in little pieces because of the way they were cracked. I'm used the big chunks of crab meat which is why I love King crab legs. The ambience is great and the shark pie/ creme brûlée for dressert is awesome. I would give Mitchell's a 4.5/5. We had a great date night there

On a whim Shelley and Erin and I went to Mitchell's restaurant in Birmingham for dinner. Had a good meal which was ruined by the place's air conditioning not working properly. This is not the first time this has been a problem. It was like this last summer. You would think they would care enough to fix it. We talked to the manager and he said it has been like that for 3 years and it was out of his control. His words Either the ownership does not have the money or they do not care. Unexpectedly he comped the entire bill. Even though the food was very good, It is shame, that we will not go back ever until the A/C is fixed.

Wow What a decline in the last two and half years Two weeks ago made reservations for Saturday evening expecting a decent meal The draw was a sign bragging of fresh lobsters Upon ordering for what I came in for ....I was advised the live lobster was only available during the Christmas Holidays ........note we are now mid way in the month of April ..... The signs remain everywhere still sporting the fact of this seasonal delicacy ......Fraudulent ...? I say YES...... Ok Reluctantly I ordered the frozen lobster tails... Prepped by kitchen help...? What was presented to me was an au gratin dish with chopped up white flesh Who knows what was on the plate... Watery - salty AWFULNESS..... Good luck to anyone wanting a pleasant dinning experience this is NOT the place... So bad was this unrecognizable mess I asked for a take out to bring home for cats....? No luck even the animals refused to consume the slop.... Good bye to yet another disastrous dive Too bad, South East Michigan is in desperate need for a good quality fish eatery.

Kinda disappointing-not as good as I remember it being when it first opened. The ahi tuna appetizer was excellent but the entree's were just so-so. I had the stuffed cod and it was just "ok". Same for the meat kabob/lobster tail entree that my husband had. Don't think I'll be rushing back anytime soon...better value elsewhere.

Outstanding! I haven't always been big on seafood but my friend and I wanted something great for dinner and nothing sounded good, until we saw Mitchell's. I'd never been and he had only been for lunch. We sat outside which only added to the experience. He ordered the Sockeye ginger crusted salmon and I ordered the shrimp scampi, both paired with a glass of malbec wine. Both meals were bursting with flavor, cooked to perfection and served promptly by the our server, Jennifer. Although stuffed to the gills, we decided on some creme brulee for dessert; which was amazing!! Spectacular food accompanied by great service made the entire evening perfect!

Nice atmosphere, for a franchise. Food was okay...the fish is obviously frozen and it's all a little overpriced, but in an area that is mostly strip malls it's a good enough choice.

I stopped by here after a hard day of shopping. I was very impressed at how fast we were seated for a Friday night dinner. Our waitress was very helpful, recommended the table a great selection of wines that accompanied our dinner choices perfectly. I ended up ordering the market seafood trio and a house salad. Everything was fresh and cooked excellent. I can't tell you enough how fresh their fish was ! It was a delight. The only disappointment in my opinion was that there was only ONE pasta dish on the entire menu. I absolutely loved this restaurant, yesterday was my first time there and it will not be my last !

  • Mars L.

Great environment, attentive waitstaff (although she had what appeared to be too many tables), and the food was delicious. The filet is always perfectly cooked and the seafood is clean and seasoned to perfection. Last night, however, the clam chowder was a bit too creamy, more so than any I've ever had in the past. I still enjoyed it :-) My only real complaint ever is the sour dough bread. I'd like to see a variety of breads offered. Would also like to see larger televisions, maybe 5 - 10 more inches. Even when sitting at the bar, one has to strain to get good sight of what's on the tv. Mitchell's is always my go-to spot. Never a disappointment!!!

This is the second time I've been to this location and the service was crummy. I don't expect much- just prompt service, a smile and a good attitude. Did not receive any of that- very slow service compared to the other servers I saw, and I didn't like the fact that olives were thrown into my friend's martini rather than put on a plate- was very unprofessional. Had to wait a long time after we asked for the bill as well which was odd. The food was delicious. I had the Shang Hai Chilean sea bass which was awesome. All in all the sea bass is great, but there are plenty of seafood restaurants in the metro Detroit area with much better service. I'll spend my dinner dollars elsewhere.

The food was excellent, the service was great, and a good time was had by all. My wife and I went out for our anniversary. We started with the crab cake appetizer. I had the chef's feature (that day, it was scallops on a butternut squash risotto). My wife had ginger encrusted salmon with an orange-ginger sauce. For dessert, I had chocolate cake which I had served with a caffè americano, and my wife pumpkin bread pudding. All of it was great. The smells and tastes of autumn were all around us. We only had two minor problems. The waitress didn't know what beer to pair with my scallops. The service went a little longer than I expected. These things didn't detract from how impressed I was with the overall experience.

We started at the bar with a few of their specialty martini's. I had the grapefruit basil martini and my wife had the pineapple martini. Both great. Very refreshing. They make all their drinks with fresh ingredients. No brand mixes. We only had one appetizer, a spicy shrimp. Very good, but I've had better. Bread was good, not great. Loved the seafood gumbo. My wife liked her Caesar salad. Looked like they used home made croutons. I had surf and turf. Should have stayed with the surf. We had 8 in our group. Everyone who had seafood was very pleased. My sirloin was tough, but OK flavor. My wife loved her sea bass steamed with ginger. And friend really enjoyed the blackened sea bass, but said it could have been a bit spicier. Waiter was fantastic. His name was Steve, but someone started calling him Chad. He went along with the joke all night. Very good service with a bit of a demanding crowd.

Made the mistake of dining on a Monday. Waitress apologized for being understaffed when we sat down. 45 minutes to receive entree after ordering. My entree not only raw inside, but cold. Sent back, received same condition second time. No charge on entree I could not eat, but my wife ended up taking me to mcdonalds.

One of my favorite seafood restaurants in Oakland County. A large menu selection. Their signature Shanghai-style (including Shanghai style seafood sampler, Shanghai-style salmon/cod) is creative and delicate. Strongly recommended!!! The quality and freshness of the food are outstanding as well. Design is a bit traditional but it has a casual atmosphere - very relaxing. Service could be a little more attentive, but overall it's a great experience.

My wife, who dislikes seafood, likes this place. I on the other hand have been very impressed and will continue to show up for great food and prices. Wait staff is pretty good, could improve slightly, though no issues. Keep up the great work.

This place is good. Fresh Fish same company as Cameron's Steak house next door which is also world class. If they don't have a food item available they can get it next door at Cameron's or vice versa. A little overpriced but that what you pay for not living by the ocean. I am a fan though

NEVER AGAIN I'm kicking myself for trying to buy some retail fish here today. I had somehow forgotten how incredibly lame this business is. We stopped going for meals about five years ago, but I've still dropped in once or twice a year to try and buy some fresh seafood. It's been a frustrating experience every single time. There is SO much wrong at this location that I don't have time or energy to list it all. I'll summarize by saying that none of the employees I have dealt with have a clue as to what standard operating procedures or retail business customer service standards are. These (uniformly) young people are all very nice and try to be helpful, but they have no clue and are therefore generally the opposite of helpful for me. The issue here is obviously management. Fool me once, shame on me; fool me six times, enormous shame on me!

  • Peter K.

Wow, amazing seafood. I was a bit skeptical going here at first because it's in a mall in suburban Detroit. However expensive it is, a lot of restaurants in the suburbs are pretty mediocre and give off the air of being upscale but simply cater to the bland, mainstream tastes of most suburbanites. Fortunately, Mitchell's was not like that at all. The seafood was so fresh! I got the Fish Market Trio which offered a nice variety of seafood. I was especially impressed with the scallops. It was cooked and seasoned just right. I'm usually not a big fan of scallops because I've often found them bland. But Mitchell's knows how to cook them right! The ambiance was not too stuffy or pretentious; a good casual place to go when you want a nicer dinner.

My parents live in the area and I had been to most every restaurant and shop in this plaza, EXCEPT for Mitchell's. I picked this place for dinner last Saturday night based on the positive Yelp reviews, and it didn't let me down. The dining room is so spacious (I'm coming from NYC but even for Michigan standards, it was big) and the tables and booths were nicely separated from each other so we felt we had a good deal of privacy. The food portions were enormous. Everyone took leftovers home -- we had more or less an entire scallop entree packed up. Favorites were calamari appetizer (medium breading but crunchy) and the whitefish, but cajun style and shanghai style. They have a large variety of fish, but seeing as we were in Michigan we had to get the local fish. I don't see much whitefish in NYC and I have always thought of it is a cheap fish, but it was flavorful and moist. Crabcake appetizer was so so (a little small for sharing) and the scallop entree was not my favorite - overcooked for my liking and a little rubbery, and lacking in flavor. Good selection of beers on tap (they have a big bar to the left when you enter) and I had a Traverse City brew. Prices were reasonable, but not cheap considering this is metro Detroit. Good place overall.

Fantastic. The restaurant's food is absolutely delicious. The jumbo shrimp with cocktail sauce appetizer was the freshest and most flavorful shrimp I've ever had. The fish is delicious as well.

  • Lauren S.

I think this is a very good restaurant. As it's a chain, they have their menu down pat - everything looked delicious and, piecewise, it is relatively reasonable for the type of restaurant. My friend and I started with their lobster and spinach artichoke dip and that was probably my favorite course. I had some type of Parmesan-crusted or almond-crusted fish - I can't quite remember what it was, but I do know that it was quite tasty! Apart from the lobster dip, I don't know if anything is downright memorable but I think this restaurant is very good, would always be a great choice and had an excellent staff. I was really impressed that the bar makes its own fruit-infused vodkas and the bartender was really knowledgeable on the entire cocktail menu.

Usually love this place, but it's looking time-worn. needs to be updated. Table edge was scrapped down to the wood and it was a little smelly. Food was good, but ambiance needs to be stepped up. this is not an inexpensive place to eat, and needs to reflect that.

Great seafood restaurant! A bit pricey but the food really is worth it (would have been rated 5 stars if just a bit cheaper). The Seafood Americana is wonderful, the sauce is amazing in it. Nice atmosphere too. Good wine list, bit pricey but they do have less expensive prices on wine one day a week I think.

Had a great piece of fish here. Chilean steelhead. Service was good, sat at the bar. I thought it was a pretty good value. A ketel one martini will set you back 11 bucks, which is a little north of average for a place like this. I went back again, and bad luck here, but the bartender "popped" a keg, and the "spit" hit the glass just right and went ALL over me, in my hair, on my dress shirt. The manager gave me a card for a free appetizer for "next time" and offered to pay my cleaning. I smell like a brewery here pal, and you want to give me a crab dip next time I come back around... Bad choice... However, I stand by my 4 stars, it's a decent place to have dinner. I am compelled to say that it's a weak 4 stars...

there are times when i am floored by the kindness of other people. stick with me here for a minute. i think that it is a major generalization to say "people are generally good" or the opposite, i think different people make different decisions in different situations. but it's rare that my mouth drops open from someone's kindness. my father had a big day yesterday, it was his birthday and the first day of his retirement. we were all planning on going out to eat for dinner, and as my whole fam but me are on diets (*gasp!) they wanted fish... so mitchell's at the rochester hills outdoor mall, it was. my dad ended up not quite making it to the restaurant... i'll spare you the details, but he had what you might call a bit of an "episode" and ended up in the hospital. episodes are weird, i guess you have to be older to get it... but i'm constantly hearing about my elders having "episodes." it's like "falling." my mom called me over the winter & said that my grandma had "fallen..." at what point does a fall go from being something you brush off, to something you get on the phone and tell the whole family about? aaaaaanywhoski... my dad had to go to the hospital (everything's fine now) but last night, we had 5:30 pm rezzies at mitchell's and my sister called them... b/c my dad still wanted to go if he got out early enough... and explained the situation and asked if we could move it back to 7pm. they said no problem. at about 6:30 the doctors told my dad that they weren't taking any chances and they wanted him to see the heart specialist in the morning, so he had to stay the night... my sis called mitchell's and told them we weren't going to make it. 45 minutes later a manager from mitchell's showed up at the hospital with 3 different desserts for my family and my dad. she said it was something small from "all of us at mitchell's..." that they felt bad for my our situation. my family was floored. she brought an ice cream cake and a carrot cake which were both delicious... and one other chocolate concoction that i didn't get to. so, i've only had the dessert from there... but this place gets 5 stars in my book, both for the desserts and the service :) still... as i write and reread this... i'm sincerely touched by her kindness.

Oh, the Crab cakes & Shanghai Seafood Sampler is to die for. There's a full selection at the Sushi Bar. Loved it very much.

The service is always excellent. Have had the crab/artichoke dip served cold on a couple of occasions so be specific when ordering. The selection of beer, wine and spirits is quite good. The bar is great for after-dinner drinks. I recommend the gumbo but since I like mine with rice and with some heat, I order it with a side of sticky rice and ask for the Tabasco. The waiters/waitresses have always been more than accommodating. Beware, the carrot cake will feed a family of four - no kidding.

Yelp is funny sometimes. 3.5? That's funny. You're funny, Yelp. If Mitchell's isn't a five, I don't know what is. I came in for lunch for my girlfriend and I's five-year anniversary (awwwwwwww), and we had no problems at all with anything. The service was fine and good, and the food was great. The Ahi tuna appetizer is a necessity, so don't bother coming here if you aren't going to get it. The seafood gumbo was tasty, but I've had better gumbo elsewhere (Gumbo's in Mt. Clemens wadduuuup). The lobster roll BLT was awesome. It fell over when the waitress set it down, and it's sort of awkward and difficult to eat with your hands because of the Texas toast, but I managed. The Texas toast was hella, the lobster was plentiful, and the bacon was, of course, great -- I just wish it was more than a single strip. The coleslaw and fries were also unsurprisingly enjoyable too. The total was something like $65 for two people during lunch (Ahi Tuna appetizer, cup of soup each, Ahi tacos, and lobster BLT roll), so it's far from cheap, but Mitchell's delivers. Go right ahead and ignore the poor souls who claim the service here isn't good and whatever else negative they have to say about the place. The prices are a bummer for the fact that it'll keep me from coming here as often as I'd like, but the food is awesome.

fishmarket there is a reason why they call it that way. I had steak and crab cake. Crab cake was excellent. The filet.. Ehh, not so much. It was dry and and did not exceed any of my expectations. They do have a good drink and wine selection. Service is pretty good, but could be friendlier at times. I came here 3x already, this place did not blow me away. I would say apps and wine would be the place to go. I recommend mussels, they were very good and ok price. They do have a sports bar and tvs so you can catch up on a game if you feel like it. Overall 3* average place.

It's the moment that I dread. I've had nightmares about it. I walk into a restaurant, pick up a menu and realize that there is nothing vegetarian on it. Well, it happened to me today here. Aside from a tossed salad, nothing. "Will they work with me?" I thought. "Can I at least get a salad and fries?" Fortunately, they did better than that. They created a combination of squash, peppers, goat cheese, asparagus, balsamic vinaigrette and sticky rice. It worked (although it was a bit on the small side). Because of the lack of choices for me, I probably wouldn't choose to go here again. Still, I appreciate their effort in serving me.

The atmosphere is nice. Dim lights, soft music. The service was suburbWe went looking for good seafood based off of ratings on yelp. We thought we were going to be served yummy fish but my husband ordered the swordfish and it was soggy (best word we could come up with). We are from the Bay Area in California and have eaten a lot of swordfish. It usually is not Mushy. I wish we could give this restaurant a better rating but for being a seafood restaurant, I would expect better. Might come back to sit at the bar.

I came to Michigan from Cali to visit my mom & celebrate her birthday. We just so happened to choose Mitchell's Fish Market to have her birthday lunch. It was very good. Our server was friendly and pleasant which is a huge part of the overall experience for me. It's cool to know that they print their menus new daily because their seafood options vary. I ordered the Shanghai salmon, scallops, and shrimp lunch special. It came on a bed of sticky rice and spinach. The lunch portion was big enough to be the dinner portion in my opinion. Everything was cooked well and with excellent seasoning. The lunch menu was also well priced. It goes until 4pm. If there isn't much of a portion size difference, the dinner menu is quite a bit more expensive and I'm not so sure it would be worth it. The dessert was nothing to write home about (so I won't) but if I'm ever back in the area I would definitely consider coming back.

I was really disappointed with this restaurant - I thought it would be elegant with dark wood everywhere and a fine dining atmosphere...but I was totally wrong. Came here on a Monday evening and sat in the bar area with my friend. They do have a GREAT happy hour Sunday - Friday, 4-7p, and both drinks and appetizers range from $4-7 each. I got a $5 mojito which was okay. For an appetizer we split 1/2 dozen oysters - my first time trying them! I wasn't a fan of oysters and I'm not sure if they are supposed to have small bits of shell when you eat them, but I got quite a few bits of shells in my mouth so that didn't taste great. Dinner was NY Steak Medallion with a lobster tail; the entrée also came with red potatoes and I ordered a side of grilled asparagus. I ordered steak medium rare, but it came out rare...that didn't bother me but it would for some people. Potatoes were good, and the lobster was just okay, nothing special. The dish came with lemon butter but I could barely taste it. The asparagus was good, but they only gave me four stalks. That is not enough for a side! Dessert was their sorbet of the day, and last night it was lime. The sorbet didn't taste fresh, the lime flavor seemed imitation. It was okay for $3.99. Unfortunately I left my credit card after signing my check...called them last night when I got home and they had it, also offered to keep it in the safe for me. I just got back from picking up my card there which wasn't an issue - they still kept my card in the safe and it wasn't a problem; I appreciate that.

Will not be returning. We came on a Friday around 6, the hostess said the only way we could be seated was if we were gone by 7:15. Rude. You should never tell a paying customer that they need to be gone by a certain time. Our server didn't bring us bread or drinks for 45 minutes. Afterwards, the hostess came back around 7:20 asking if we were still doing okay, implying we needed to wrap it up. Unbelievably rude, again. Food was good but over all experience was disappointing.

All I can say is WOW what a serious disappointment. My wife and I made a reservation to try one of the best seafood restaurants (so I've read and heard) in Michigan. WRONG WRONG WRONG. Friday night, not too busy...we were seated immediately. It was surprising that it wasn't packed. We ordered our drinks, an appetizer and a cup of soup. The drinks and soup came immediately. Seafood gumbo was really great....tasty etc. etc. After that, we waited and waited and waited until my wife flagged down our waitress and asked if she planned on bring our appetizer PRIOR to the meal. The answer was "OMG, I forgot to put it in". Ok, everybody makes mistakes. We were willing to let that slide. A short while after that our food arrived. Both our dishes were not appetizing and barely luke warm. SERIOUSLY? We waited all this time and our food is cold? On top of that, for the price they are charging per plate, there was hardly any fish!!! So sad. This place could be so good, but it's not. Our waitress came and asked why we had put our food to the side and she was told about it being cold. No problem. She'll take care of it. We got it back about 5 - 10 minutes later. THE SAME PLATE with the food moved around and heated up. Seriously? This is fine dining? This is diner dining, not fine dining. We returned the food, asked for our bill and told our waitress we were extremely dissatisfied. The manager quickly came over and comped our meal (the first thing right that happened). She was very apologetic, gave us her business card and urged us to try them again...to give her a call personally and she'd see to it that we would be satisfied. That's pretty unlikely to happen. This was a terrible experience friends.

Been going to Mitchell's for years...very disappointed. Wife had a yen for whitefish so we called them and asked if they had it. They told us yes. So, we got in the car and drove 7 miles to have an afternoon meal. When we ordered the whitefish the server came back and advised us they were out. So, we ordered something else. When the server delivered our meal she spilled the catsup on the floor and went to get more. During our meal I placed my empty drink out for a refill. After about 15 minutes some one came to ask if we'd like refills (in an almost empty restaurant ). At that point we just asked for the bill. When we arrived home the kicker....catsup splattered down the side of my wife's shirt. The long and short of it. 1. Don't believe them when they tell you something (especially over the phone) 2. Plan on having only one chance to order drinks during your meal

Went to Mitchell's Fish Market today for lunch and had a basic, chicken caesar salad. Had a hint of fishy taste along with the smell. I know it's a fish restaurant but still, not what I wanted to smell while I ate.

Went to Mitchell's last night for dinner been there many times before but this was the worst. My partner had SEAFOOD AMERICANA sea scallops, Cajun shrimp, spinach, mushrooms, shellfish cream sauce over roasted redskins * 24.99 Well apart from the fact the meal was swimming in sauce and he was unable to taste any of the seafood due to this over sweet cloying sauce the was a large piece if bread first he thought it to be a piece of fish then after having a couple of bites decided it was bread. Why? Was that on the plate in the first place no mention of slice of bread on menu. I had scallops Shanghai style Rice-wine soy sauce & ginger, sticky rice, spinach Again swimming in soy sauce rice should be white and sticky but again so heavy with the sauce it was difficult to eat without splashing oneself, had to drain each mouthful to eat it. Totally disgusting told waitress who stood there looking at us as if we were speaking a foreign language. So we left half our meal paid and got out of there. Never again.

I don't know how my fish-loving self has never been to this place, but it is truly a tragedy. The food here is delicious. The house salad with poppyseed vinaigrette was very good, but the dates didn't seem to fit with the flavor so I took them out. As for appetizers, our table shared the crispy calamari (nothing crazy, but cooked and seasoned well and a nice texture to the calamari itself), the spicy crispy shrimp (very good, and I would order again) and the crab dip (way too much leafy spinach that was difficult to eat with a chip and not very much crab). The grapefruit basil martini that I ordered took over the #1 spot on my "most delicious martini" list I keep in my head, unseating the fresh-pressed strawberry martini from Cheesecake Factory which has reigned supreme for half a decade. As for the main course, I don't know what they do to the whipped redskin taters, but they are heavenly. I'm not usually a huge potato fan, but I could eat those spuds daily. They are thick, rich, and creamy, without losing the potato flavor or being too buttery. The vegetable medley that came with the fish was fresh, cooked well, and not overseasoned. The fish itself (I cant remember the name of it, but it was white-fleshed, flaky and silky) had great flavor, and I was very pleased with the server's recommendation to not get a sauce/marinade preparation on it. The only down side was that half of our table had lukewarm fish when it was brought out (we had a large party, so I'm guessing the plates were done at different times and a couple sat while the others were being finished). Oh well, the food was still amazing and I didn't want to give my fish up by sending it back.

Yum! The atmosphere is fantastic and the food was really great! I had the wild-caught salmon prepared with sun-dried tomatoes & chevre, which was cooked to perfection. The only draw back is when you order their fresh fish, you don't get a choice of any sides (you can't even really order anything a la carte, like at Rochester Chop House). Mine came with asparagus, which was good, but a little on the soggy side. The service was great, the drinks were good. We will probably be back :)

Oysters were delicious. Service. Not so much. Had to ask twice for bread. I think maybe cause I was sitting at the bar and not drinking might have caused that lack of interest in going service. Hate to break the news, some people just don't drink.

Very very below average for the category of dining that this place is supposed to represent. You will not get your money's worth. First bad sign was the strange smell of the booth they sat us in. Smelled like they used dirty water to clean it. We moved to another booth. Took 15 minutes plus to get our drinks, but when they finally came, it was the best part of the meal. Salads were sad looking and tasting. Shang Hai was boring and blah. Scallops were over cooked. Waitress never checked on us after someone else delivered the meal. We arrived at 8:30 (they close at 10) and multiple servers were cleaning and setting up our area the whole time. Bathroom was a mess and had no toilet paper in one stall and an empty paper towel holder. We had to ask another server to have our waitress bring the bill. All around fail. Won't be back!

Good Food, but very very very slow kitchen. Twice we had to wait 30-45 min for our salads.

Great food, crappy service. I've been there twice in the last week, different servers, still bad service. Last week wrong orders and mis prepared drinks, tonight had to chase our server down for drinks on a party of 8. Food was great as always and it's in a great spot. Tonight was a filet and shrimp night - both where cooked perfectly. Had a good Waiter named Steve a month a go, other than that it's a shit show.

Fish was good although something's not right here. Ordered an appetizer and it never came. Not on the Bill either. The mashed potatoes were unbelievably salty. The vegetable medley was not cooked at all. Raw. Hard to get a second beer. No refills on water either.

Good food and good service. Everyone in my party ordered off of the "Prie Fix" menu and no one was disappointed. My dish was excellent, with well-executed fish cooked to perfection, accompanied by perfectly sautéed vegetables. My dessert, a crème brulee, was both delicious and presentable. Everything was very reasonably priced and we had excellent service- no waiting, food left under heat lamps or orders coming out at different times. I would recommend this place to anyone. We stumbled into this place just by chance because the other eatery that we thought we were going to eat at was full and had a long waiting period to get a table. While Mitchell's Fish Market was pretty busy, we didn't have a wait to get in, so we tried it. I'm glad that we did.

First time visit was great! We walked in closer to 11pm at night and were basically the only ones in the restaurant. I'm not sure when they closed but they treated us great. Food was delicious! I ordered the seafood sampler which features a salmon filet, jumbo shrimp and scallops on a pile of rice. Everything was cooked perfectly. Our server seemed very knowledgable about the menu and was pleasant.
